Srinagar (India), Aug. 9 (LaPresse) – Two Indian soldiers and a suspected militant have been killed in one of the longest firefights in Indian-controlled Kashmir. According to official sources, the fighting began on August 1 after Indian troops surrounded the forested area of Akhal, in the southern Kulgam district, following a report that a group of rebels was operating in the area.
Since then, intermittent clashes have continued in the area, where troops have deployed helicopters and drones to combat an unspecified number of militants in the vast forested region. While the militant was killed in the initial clashes, two soldiers were killed on Friday night. Authorities have not provided further details, the Associated Press reported, specifying that it could not independently verify the information.
