Rome, 10 August (LaPresse) – ‘The latest decision by the Israeli government risks triggering another horrific chapter in this conflict, with potential consequences that go beyond Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.’ This was stated by Miroslav Jenca, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas, during his briefing to the Security Council. ‘If these plans are implemented, they would likely trigger another calamity in Gaza, with repercussions throughout the region and causing further forced displacement, killings and destruction, exacerbating the unbearable suffering of the population,’ he added, calling for a complete, immediate and permanent ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and Israel's compliance with international humanitarian law.
