Milan, August 21 (LaPresse) – Donald Trump is stepping back from negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. According to The Guardian, citing sources within the U.S. administration, Trump currently intends to let Russia and Ukraine organize a meeting between their leaders without playing a direct role himself.
The Guardian reports that Trump recently told his advisers he plans to host a trilateral meeting with the two leaders only after they have already met, though it remains unclear whether such a meeting will take place. The sources say Trump believes the next phase in ending the war in Ukraine should be a bilateral meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a phone interview with talk show host Mark Levin on WABC on Tuesday, Trump also said he believes it would be better for Putin and Zelensky to meet without him at first. "I just want to see what happens at the meeting. So they’re organizing everything and we’ll see what happens," he said.
