Milan, 22 August (LaPresse) – Famine has been confirmed for the first time in Gaza City. This was announced by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a United Nations-supported body responsible for monitoring food security. The IPC has raised its classification to Phase 5, the highest and worst level on its scale of acute food insecurity. Famine has been confirmed in the Gaza governorate, which includes Gaza City and the surrounding area, and “catastrophic conditions” are expected to spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis by the end of September.
