Turin, 26 August. (LaPresse) – ‘The fight against anti-Semitism cannot be exploited and cannot fuel any disagreement between Israel and France.’ This is what French President Emmanuel Macron wrote in a letter responding to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's letter expressing concern about ‘the alarming rise of anti-Semitism in France.’ ‘The protection of our Jewish compatriots against the rise of anti-Semitism has been, from day one, a top priority of my actions,’ reads Macron's letter, published by Le Monde. ‘This responsibility falls on France, and all government services are committed to it,’ he explained. These accusations ‘are unacceptable and offend the whole of France,’ Macron said, “solemnly” calling on the Israeli prime minister ‘to put an end to the deadly and illegal race towards a permanent war in Gaza, which exposes your country to humiliation and your people to a dead end, and to stop the illegal and unjustified recolonisation of the West Bank.’
