Copenhagen (Denmark), Aug 27 (LaPresse) – Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen summoned the top U.S. diplomat in the country, Chargé d’Affaires Mark Stroh, for talks after the national broadcaster DR reported that at least three people linked to President Donald Trump allegedly conducted covert influence operations in Greenland. Greenland, a vast semi-autonomous Danish territory in the Arctic, is coveted by Trump. Denmark — a NATO ally of the U.S. — and Greenland have stated the island is not for sale and condemned reports that the U.S. is gathering intelligence on the territory. Danish public broadcaster DR cited unnamed government and security sources, as well as unidentified sources in Greenland and the U.S., who believe that at least three Americans linked to Trump carried out secret influence operations in Greenland. According to DR, the report is based on information from eight sources who believe the goal was to weaken relations with Denmark from within Greenlandic society. DR noted it was unable to clarify whether the Americans were acting independently or on someone’s orders.
