“It is clear that Member States disagree on how to persuade the Israeli government to change course. The options are clear and remain on the table; we have presented the document on the options. But the problem is that not all EU Member States agree.” This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, at the conference following the informal Gymnich Foreign Affairs Council in Copenhagen. Many EU member states have taken measures against Israel, not against Israel, but against the Israeli government. And there is a very important distinction to be made. It is not against Israel, but against the actions of the current Israeli government, including sanctions on ministers and the suspension of arms exports, she points out. This is what the EU member states have done. So, on the part of the European Union, there is no way to sugarcoat the pill. Today, a large majority of member states put forward further proposals on what more we can do to really improve the situation. We will explore these proposals."
