New York (New York, USA), Sept. 7 (LaPresse) – U.S. President Donald Trump will watch the men's final of the US Open tomorrow from the Rolex suite at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. This was reported to the Associated Press by an informed source. Trump's first appearance at the New York Grand Slam tournament since 2015 will be on Sunday as a guest of the Swiss watchmaker, the source said.
If there are negative reactions to Trump's presence, they will not be shown on ABC's televised broadcast of the match, in which ATP world number 1 Jannik Sinner will face number 2 Carlos Alcaraz. This is a standard request by the U.S. Tennis Association to broadcasters.
Trump had often attended the US Open in previous years, when he lived in New York and before launching his political career. He now mainly resides at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, when not in Washington.
The acceptance of the Rolex suite invitation is noteworthy, as it comes just weeks after the Trump administration imposed a 39% tariff on Swiss products. This is more than two and a half times higher than the tariff applied to European Union exports to the U.S., and nearly four times the tariff on British exports to the U.S., raising questions about Switzerland’s ability to compete with the surrounding 27-member EU bloc.
