Brussels, Sep 9 (LaPresse) – In the automotive sector, “one of the key aspects we need to achieve now is technological neutrality. This means we need a review of the ban on combustion engines,” said EPP president Manfred Weber during a press briefing in Strasbourg. “We have already invited automotive sector CEOs to provide us with feedback. And this week we will have a meeting with all the union representatives from the major automotive companies in Munich. So listening is the starting point,” he emphasized. “Last year we lost 88,000 jobs, almost 90,000, in the automotive industry in one year. This is the reality on the ground, and it must be reflected here. Therefore, the automotive sector is not only the largest economic sector of the European Union, on which millions of jobs and families depend, but it is also a major source of innovation, and that’s why it now needs our support as policymakers,” he stressed.
