Frankfurt (Germany), Sept. 10 (LaPresse) – "What is happening now in Gaza cannot be explained with the right to self-defense. That is why we demand an immediate ceasefire, an end to the blockade on humanitarian aid, and a stop to illegal settlements in the West Bank. Unfortunately, Israel is not listening to its friends and it is impossible for the European Union not to react when day after day we see on television images of what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank. The only solution, the only lasting solution for peace and stability in the region, is the two-state solution," said European Parliament President Antonio Costa at a press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. "For this reason, we must create all the conditions to reform the Palestinian National Authority, strengthen its ability to govern the entire territory, eliminate Hamas, and ensure that a true, democratic Palestinian government is able to rule in Palestine. And this is why the European Union is the main financial supporter of the Palestinian National Authority and we are very close to them to improve the necessary reforms," Costa added, stressing that "now is the time to cease fire, to stop the bombing, to stop the killing, to stop destroying Gaza, and to halt illegal settlements."
