Frankfurt (Germany), Sept. 10 (LaPresse) – "I just had a long phone conversation with the Polish Prime Minister. He informed me in detail about last night's attacks. I share his assessment that this is a very serious threat to peace throughout Europe. We are witnessing a new type of attack from Russia. And I agree with his assessment that the Russian government's claim that this was, so to speak, a coincidence or an oversight is not credible," said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at a press conference with European Council President Antonio Costa in Berlin, regarding Russian drones in Polish airspace. "Now we will have to discuss the consequences of all this again. I want to make it clear that European air defense, NATO air defense, worked, but obviously not as well as it should have to prevent so many drones from entering Polish airspace with enough advance notice and to engage the targets with sufficient lead time. This will trigger discussions within NATO. It will also, of course, trigger discussions within the European Union. But the message is absolutely clear: we are and remain ready to defend ourselves, and we are and remain determined to significantly increase the readiness and defense capability of the European part of NATO," Merz added.
