Rome, Sept. 12 (LaPresse) – “We are closely monitoring the situation of the Global Sumud Flotilla” headed to Gaza, “and we will provide diplomatic and consular assistance to the 59 Italian citizens participating in the initiative, as we have always done for Italians detained in Israel for similar actions.” This was stated by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Giorgio Silli, responding in the Chamber of Deputies to an urgent question presented by Avs.

“Minister Tajani has asked the Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to stay in close contact with the Italian spokesperson of the Flotilla,” he added, explaining that “our embassy in Tel Aviv has been activated and, under Minister Tajani’s instructions, has urged Israeli authorities to respect the rights of all our nationals present on the Flotilla, including some members of parliament.”
