Jalalabad (Afghanistan), Sept. 21 (LaPresse) – The Taliban reject the attempt by U.S. President Donald Trump to regain control of the Bagram airbase in Afghanistan. "If Afghanistan does not return the Bagram airbase to those who built it, the United States of America, bad things will happen!!!" Trump wrote yesterday on his social platform Truth. The United States abandoned the vast military facility four years ago following the chaotic withdrawal from the country after decades of war.
Taliban chief spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid today dismissed Trump’s statement and, in a post on X, urged the United States to adopt a policy of "realism and rationality." He added that Afghanistan has a foreign policy focused on the economy and seeks constructive relations with all states based on mutual and shared interests, and that in all bilateral negotiations the United States has been consistently reminded that Afghanistan’s independence and territorial integrity are of utmost importance. "It should be remembered that under the Doha agreement, the United States committed to ‘not using or threatening the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Afghanistan, nor to interfere in its internal affairs’," said Taliban spokesperson Mujahid, adding that the United States must remain faithful to its commitments.
