Kathmandu (Nepal), 5 October (LaPresse) – Landslides, lightning strikes and floods have caused the deaths of at least 22 people in Nepal. Authorities report that another 12 people are missing. On Sunday, landslides struck several villages in the eastern mountainous district of Illam, killing 18 people and leaving seven others missing. Six members of one family died when a landslide destroyed their home while they were sleeping. Three other people were killed by lightning in another district, and one person died in southern Nepal due to flooding. Authorities rescued 114 people. The government issued a heavy rain warning and closed major motorways, disrupting travel after Nepal's biggest holiday. The heavy weekend rains came at the end of Nepal's monsoon season, which usually ends in mid-September.
