Frankfurt (Germany), 7 October (LaPresse) – The new mayor of Herdecke (North Rhine-Westphalia), Iris Stalzer, was the victim of a knife attack. The 57-year-old SPD member is in critical condition after the attack. According to Bild, her condition is critical. According to reports, the newly elected mayor was found seriously injured today by her son in her flat in Herdecke-Herrentisch. She suffered multiple stab wounds to the abdomen and back. She reportedly told her son that she had been attacked on the street by several men. Doctors in the emergency room are currently fighting to save her life. According to Bild, the police have raised the alarm and are searching for those responsible. A homicide squad is expected to take over the investigation soon. It is not yet clear whether the incident has a political background. Iris Stalzer had just been elected mayor of the Ruhr city in the 28 September run-off election.
