Frankfurt (Germany), Oct. 8 (LaPresse) – Iris Stalzer, the designated mayor of Herdecke (North Rhine-Westphalia), who was seriously injured in a knife attack yesterday, was stabbed by her daughter. According to police, during questioning, Stalzer accused the 17-year-old. The SPD politician is now out of life-threatening danger, said Ursula Schönberg, head of the Hagen police department.

Initially, police launched a manhunt, but suspicion quickly fell on Stalzer’s two teenage children, aged 15 and 17. In the basement of the house, officers found evidence indicating that the crime had taken place there, according to homicide unit chief Jens Rautenberg. In other rooms, police also found two knives and clothing apparently worn by the suspects. At first, the clothing could not be clearly linked, so the two teenagers were separated and brought to the station.

Stalzer was questioned late in the evening, and according to Rautenberg, “she implicated her daughter.” Early findings suggest her statement is consistent with the evidence at the crime scene. The prosecutor’s office is investigating for aggravated bodily harm. However, the teenage girl will not be brought before a judge. According to Prosecutor Bernd Haldorn, there are no grounds for pre-trial detention. She is expected to be released today and handed over to the youth welfare office.

However, the legal assessment may change as the investigation continues. No definitive statements can yet be made about the motive. The daughter’s interrogation is pending and will take place once she has been appointed a public defender.
