Milan, Oct. 16 (LaPresse) – "The Socialist Party is once again a governing force and proves that the confrontational strategy of La France Insoumise has failed. The PS secured the suspension of an unpopular reform. The goal was not to strike a backroom deal, but to ensure France’s stability in an already dangerous context." This was stated by former French President François Hollande in an interview with Repubblica. "The NFP was a circumstantial alliance to block the far right. In the upcoming municipal elections next March, there will be no joint lists between the Socialists and La France Insoumise, which has taken positions incompatible with both city governance and state functioning, should we come to power. La France Insoumise today plays the role of the 'useful idiot' of French politics and frightens part of the population more than the far right," he explained. Even within the majority, figures like former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe are calling for Macron’s resignation. "I’m surprised that this comes from a former prime minister appointed by Macron and himself a presidential candidate. Resignation would lead to early presidential elections, to be held within the constitutional limit of thirty-five days. That is too short a period. We need a long campaign that allows for serious debate on major issues: defense, security, immigration, taxation, pensions, and France’s role in the world," he remarked.
