Rome, 21 October (LaPresse) – Sanae Takaichi, president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, will be elected prime minister on Tuesday, becoming the first woman to hold this position in Japan's history. Her election is supported by the new coalition partner, the Japan Innovation Party, in a context of political instability due to the growing fragmentation of the multi-party system. This was reported by local media. Takaichi obtained 237 votes, prevailing over the opposition candidate and former prime minister Yoshihiko Noda, who received 149, out of a total of 465 seats in the lower house.
