Islamabad (Pakistan), 8 November (LaPresse/AP) – Peace talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Istanbul have ended without agreement. According to official sources, the parties blamed each other for the failure of the negotiations, which were aimed at maintaining the fragile ceasefire. Tensions have risen following clashes on the border, which have caused dozens of deaths. The violence erupted after explosions in Kabul on 9 October, which the Taliban government blamed on Pakistan. The clashes subsided after Qatar brokered a ceasefire on 19 October, which remains precariously in place. Afghan government spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid blamed Pakistan for the failure of the talks, saying that ‘Pakistan's demands in the negotiations were unreasonable and the talks could not proceed, the meeting ended and the talks are now at a standstill’.
