Brussels (Belgium), Nov. 8 (LaPresse) – China has expressed strong indignation and filed a formal protest with the EU, criticizing the European Parliament for allowing Taiwan’s Vice President, Bi-Khim Hsiao, to speak yesterday before a group of parliamentarians at the European Parliament in Brussels, during a meeting on China organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC). China’s mission to the EU criticized the European Parliament for permitting Bi-Khim Hsiao and other prominent Taiwanese independence figures to carry out what it called “separatist activities” in its building, despite Beijing’s opposition. “This act seriously harms China’s core interests and violates the ‘One China’ principle, seriously interfering in China’s internal affairs and undermining mutual political trust between China and the EU,” stated Beijing’s mission, adding that the Taiwan issue, which concerns China’s sovereignty, is a red line that cannot be crossed, and urging Europe to stop sending wrong signals to what it calls “separatist forces.”
