Rome, 18 Nov. (LaPresse) – The UN Security Council has approved the US plan for Gaza, which authorises an international stabilisation force to ensure security in the devastated territory and provides a possible future path towards an independent Palestinian state. Russia, which had submitted a competing resolution, abstained along with China in the vote, which ended with 13 votes in favour and none against. The United States and other countries hoped that Moscow would not use its veto power in the most powerful UN body to block the adoption of the resolution. The vote was a crucial step for the fragile ceasefire and efforts to outline the future of Gaza after two years of war between Israel and Hamas.
