Milan, Nov 23 (LaPresse) – "Today, judges are – and will be in the future – independent from political power. But they are highly dependent on the power of the factions, which, through the CSM, decide their fate. Therefore, the lottery system is feared by the leadership of the ANM even more than the separation of careers: because it will take away from the factions that enormous power. And judges will finally be freer." This is what Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said in an interview with Avvenire regarding the referendum on the constitutional reform for the separation of careers, which according to Nordio, should take place "in the first half of March." The Minister then added: "I would like to have a meeting with the leadership of the ANM. After that, I will not shy away from any kind of confrontation, but my priority is with the ANM, as long as they accept. The situation that has developed surprised me, because with ANM President Cesare Parodi, we had already agreed on the date for the debate, to be held on Bruno Vespa’s program. The reason for the refusal, as far as I understand, is the ANM’s desire not to give the debate a political meaning. But this means that members of the judicial association will no longer debate with any political figures. It seems strange to me, I hope they change their minds."
