Ottawa, Dec. 6 (LaPresse) – The Canadian government has removed Syria from the list of foreign states that support terrorism under the State Immunity Act and has removed Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from the list of terrorist entities under the Canadian Criminal Code. This was reported by the Ottawa executive in a statement. “These measures are in line with recent decisions taken by our allies, including the United Kingdom and the United States, and follow the efforts made by the Syrian transitional government to promote Syria’s stability, build an inclusive and secure future for its citizens, and work with global partners to strengthen regional stability and counter terrorism,” the Canadian government said. “Canada welcomes the positive steps taken by the Syrian transitional government since the end of the Assad regime toward a peaceful, Syrian-led political transition. Canada stands firmly with the Syrian people in their pursuit of an inclusive, stable and prosperous future,” commented Foreign Minister Anita Anand. “We will continue to closely monitor the situation in Syria and take action against the violent, extremist or terrorist activities of ISIS and Al-Qaeda that pose a threat to Canada, our citizens and our interests worldwide,” added Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree.
