Rome, 8 December (LaPresse) – ‘Early this morning, Israeli police accompanied by municipal officials forcibly entered the UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem. Furniture, computer equipment and other assets were seized. The flag was lowered and replaced with an Israeli flag.’ This was reported on social media by the director of the United Nations agency, Philippe Lazzarini. ‘This latest action represents a blatant disregard of Israel's obligation, as a member state of the United Nations, to protect and respect the inviolability of United Nations premises,’ he added. ‘Allowing this to happen represents a new challenge to international law, setting a dangerous precedent anywhere else in the world where the United Nations is present,’ Lazzarini concluded.
