Surin (Thailand), Dec. 9 (LaPresse) – “Thailand has never desired violence. I would like to reiterate that Thailand has never started a war or an invasion, but it will never tolerate a violation of its sovereignty.” This was stated by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in a televised address, emphasizing that military operations would be conducted as necessary to defend the country and protect public safety. During a press conference, Thai Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri said that the navy is strengthening its position in eastern Thailand, near the border with Cambodia. Yesterday, Thailand carried out airstrikes along the frontier, describing them as a defensive action against military installations. Surasant specified that such operations will continue “until the attacks cease.” In a separate statement, Thailand’s 2nd Military Region, located along the border, said that nearly 500 temporary shelters have been set up in four border provinces, housing 125,838 people. It is expected that additional refugees from the combat zone will stay with relatives in safe areas. It added that Cambodia has attacked Thai positions with rockets and drones.
