Turin, 13 December (LaPresse) – Peace between Ukraine and Russia ‘is not far off’. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The statements, made to journalists during the return flight from Turkmenistan, where he met Putin on Friday, were released by Erdogan's office this morning, according to the Daily Sabah. Erdogan said he hoped to discuss the peace plan for Ukraine with US President Donald Trump and also warned the parties to the conflict about attacks in the Black Sea. Erdogan said the region should not be used as a ‘battlefield,’ hours after a Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk damaged a Turkish-owned ship. ‘The Black Sea should not be seen as an area of confrontation. This would not benefit either Russia or Ukraine. Everyone needs safe navigation in the Black Sea,’ he told reporters aboard his plane from Turkmenistan.
