Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), 22 December (LaPresse/AP) – Thailand and Cambodia will resume talks by the end of this week to reach a more lasting ceasefire along their border. The general border committee involving both countries will meet on Wednesday to define detailed measures. This was stated by Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, who stressed that progress depends on detailed bilateral negotiations rather than public statements that internationalise the dispute. The October ceasefire agreement was rushed through to ensure that it could be witnessed by US President Donald Trump and did not contain sufficient details to guarantee the agreement to end the armed conflict would hold, Phuangketkeow said after a meeting of foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. While Cambodia has publicly stated that it is ready for an unconditional ceasefire, Bangkok has never received any direct proposal and Thailand believes that such statements are aimed at increasing international pressure rather than resolving the issue, Sihasak said after the meeting organised to seek solutions to end the crisis.
