Milan, 26 December (LaPresse) – US President Donald Trump has declared that the United States has launched ‘a powerful and deadly strike’ against Islamic State forces in Nigeria. The attack comes after Trump repeatedly criticised the African country's government in recent weeks, accusing it of failing to curb the persecution of Christians. Trump posted the news of the attack overnight on his Truth profile. Last month, Trump said he had ordered the Pentagon to begin planning potential military action in Nigeria, following reports of persecution of Christians. The State Department then announced that it would restrict visas for Nigerians and their family members involved in mass killings and violence against Christians. The United States recently designated Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern’ under the International Religious Freedom Act.
