Mexico City (Mexico), Jan. 2 (LaPresse/AP) – A strong earthquake shook southern and central Mexico and was also felt in Mexico City, causing the interruption of President Claudia Sheinbaum's first press conference of the new year due to the activation of seismic alarms. According to Mexico's national seismological agency, the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 and its epicenter was located near the city of San Marcos, in the southern state of Guerrero, near the tourist resort of Acapulco on the Pacific coast. No damage or casualties were reported.
