Milan, 4 January (LaPresse) – ‘I would strongly urge the United States to stop threatening a historically close ally and another country and another people who have made it very clear that they are not for sale.’ This was stated in a note by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen after US President Donald Trump declared: ‘We absolutely need Greenland.’ ‘It makes absolutely no sense to talk about the need for the United States to annex Greenland. The United States,’ Frederiksen added, "has no right to annex any of the three Commonwealth countries. The Kingdom of Denmark – and therefore Greenland – is part of NATO and is therefore covered by the Alliance's security guarantee. We already have a defence agreement between the Kingdom and the United States, which guarantees the United States extensive access to Greenland. And we have invested significantly in security in the Arctic."
