Milan, Jan. 6 (LaPresse) – “Tonight I participated in a G7 Foreign Ministers meeting on Venezuela and Ukraine. I emphasized the importance of ensuring a peaceful transition in Venezuela and the need to protect the large Italian community in the country. During the meeting, I insisted on the importance of the release of our fellow citizens detained in Venezuelan prisons, starting with Alberto Trentini, Mario Burlò, Luigi Gasperin, and Biagio Pilieri.”
This was written on X by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who noted that “Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed support for the release of political prisoners.”
“In line with the message of Pope Leo, I recalled that for Italy the needs of the civilian population are the main objective. On this, we are ready to support humanitarian initiatives for the Venezuelan population and to do everything necessary for a peaceful transition. On this topic as well, Secretary of State Rubio welcomed our positions. For Italy, without stabilization there is neither growth nor transition,” Tajani concluded.
