Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Jan. 9 (LaPresse) – “Iranians demanded their freedom tonight. In response, the Iranian regime cut all lines of communication,” said the exiled crown prince Reza Pahlavi. “It shut down the Internet. It cut landline phone lines. It may also attempt to disrupt satellite signals,” he added. He then called on European leaders to join United States President Donald Trump in the promise to “hold the regime accountable.” “I urge them to use all available technical, financial, and diplomatic resources to restore communications with the Iranian people, so that their voice and will can be heard and seen,” he said, “do not let the voices of my brave compatriots be silenced.” Pahlavi finally said that he would present further plans depending on the response to his appeal. His support for Israel and the support he has received from Israel have drawn criticism in the past, particularly after the 12-day war that Israel waged against Iran in June. At some demonstrations, protesters shouted slogans in support of the Shah, but it is unclear whether this reflects support for Pahlavi himself or a desire to return to a period prior to the 1979 Islamic revolution.
