Milan, 15 Jan. (LaPresse) – Yesterday's meeting in Washington between the United States, Denmark and Greenland "took place in a serious but constructive atmosphere. Dialogue has now begun and it has been agreed to set up a working group that will continue to address the differences between the parties. This is an important step. Dialogue and diplomacy are the right way forward, even when the stakes are high and the pressure is considerable.‘ This was written in a Facebook post by Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen. ’Greenland wants peaceful cooperation based on dialogue with the United States and our international partners. But dialogue requires respect for our constitutional position, international law and our right to our country,‘ he added. ’The security policy situation is serious and the geopolitical interests in our region are great. I understand that this creates unease. That is precisely why it is essential that we remain united in our community and in the alliances that protect us."
