Milan, 22 Jan. (LaPresse) – The transfer of $1 billion to the Gaza Peace Council currently being formed by the United States will require the release of Russian assets in the United States. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in a briefing with journalists, as reported by the Tass agency. ‘It is not yet clear how the contribution will be formalised legally; all this needs to be discussed,’ Peskov said, ‘so it is necessary to unblock the situation and this, of course, will require certain actions on the part of the United States.’ During a briefing yesterday with permanent representatives of the Russian Security Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow could transfer the requested contribution to the Board of Peace using assets frozen in the United States during the previous administration.
