Washington (USA), 24 January (LaPresse) – US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 100% tariff on goods imported from Canada if the country goes ahead with its trade agreement with China. Trump said in a social media post that if Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney ‘thinks he can turn Canada into a “dumping port” for China to send goods and products to the United States, he is seriously mistaken.’ While Trump has waged a trade war over the past year, Canada negotiated an agreement this month to lower tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles in exchange for reduced import taxes on Canadian agricultural products. Initially, the US president said that this agreement was what Carney should have done. Now, however, he seems to have changed his mind. Trump's threat came amid tensions with Carney, while the Republican president's push to acquire Greenland has put a strain on NATO.
