Dubai, (United Arab Emirates, 27 Jan. (LaPresse/AP) – Activists have said that at least 6,126 people have been killed in Iran's crackdown on nationwide protests and that many more are feared dead. The new figures come from the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, which has proven to be accurate in several waves of unrest in Iran. The organisation verifies each death with a network of activists on the ground in Iran. The Associated Press has been unable to independently verify the death toll, as authorities have cut off the internet and calls to the Islamic Republic. The Iranian government has estimated the death toll to be much lower, at 3,117, saying that 2,427 were civilians and security forces.
