Brussels, 29 Jan. (LaPresse) – ‘As far as ICE is concerned, I believe there will be three people working inside the American Consulate in Milan to provide any information to the Italian police. The police, the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza are the ones responsible for ensuring public order in Italy, so there is no need for alarmism.’ This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani at the end of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels. We sent many more than three to the football championships in Germany, where we presented, together with Piantedosi, the entire team of Italian police officers who went there to help ensure security and protect Italian citizens, as well as to provide information to Italians if necessary. When there are such large events, it is obvious that various countries send forces to collaborate with the country's security and law enforcement agencies, but this is normal. There is an exchange of information, as we have with the French, the Germans and the Japanese, which is normal. They will not be walking around in combat gear in the streets. It is also pointless to hold demonstrations. Three officials going to the Consulate does not seem to me to be a threat to democracy or to the safety and security of Italian citizens. We must always know how things stand; it is always wrong to exploit the situation'. The minister then points out that “public order in Italy is guaranteed by Italy, so it will be the Carabinieri, the police and the finance police who will ensure security in Milan, Cortina and all the places where sporting activities will take place”.
