Abuja (Nigeria), Feb. 7 (LaPresse) – During a dawn attack in northwestern Nigeria, gunmen killed three villagers and kidnapped 11 people, including a Catholic priest. The gunmen attacked the priest’s residence in the local government area of Kauru, in Kaduna State, around 3 a.m. This was reported by the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan in Kaduna in a statement describing the assault as “an act of invasion by a group of terrorists.” The Catholic Church of Kaduna has called for prayers for the victims and for the release of the hostages. Northern Nigeria is experiencing a complex security crisis involving both Islamic militants and armed gangs who kidnap people for ransom. This is a challenge that President Bola Tinubu has struggled to address since his election in 2023, despite promising to end the crisis.
