Turin, 14 February (LaPresse) – ‘I am fairly confident in saying that if Ayatollah Khamenei were to say tomorrow that he wanted to meet with President Trump, the president would do so, not because he agrees with the ayatollah, but because he thinks this is the way to solve problems in the world, and he does not consider meeting with someone to be a concession.’ This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with Bloomberg on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. ‘I think it's pretty clear that Iran will never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon, and that this poses a threat not only to the United States, but also to Europe, global security and the region,’ he explained. ‘Second, obviously we want to have forces in the region because Iran has demonstrated the will and the capability to attack and strike at the US presence in the region.’ ‘Beyond that, the president has said that his preference is to reach an agreement with Iran. It's very difficult, but he's going to try. And that's what we're trying to do right now, and Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have some meetings planned shortly. We'll see if we can make some progress,’ Rubio added.
