Moscow, Feb. 22 (LaPresse) – According to Russian security agencies reported to Tass, an assault group of the 253rd Separate Assault Regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, known as “Arey,” was destroyed during an attempted counterattack in the Sumy region. “In the Krasnopolsky district, the enemy tried to advance toward Severyans positions near Pokrovka using an assault group from the ‘Arey’ regiment,” the Russian source said. “The advance was detected in advance by reconnaissance, and the enemy group was annihilated by a large-scale fire attack.” The “Arey” regiment, recently reorganized from the 253rd Separate Assault Battalion of the 129th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, had already been deployed in the Sumy region after suffering heavy losses during the invasion of the Kursk region. According to statements from prisoners cited by Russian sources, the core of the regiment reportedly includes, in addition to openly declared Nazi members, former inmates convicted of serious crimes and foreign mercenaries.
