Dubai (United Arab Emirates), 12 March (LaPresse/AP) – An attack on the Iraqi port of Basra has caused at least one death and forced the authorities to suspend operations at all oil terminals in the country. Farhan al-Fartousi, director general of the General Company for Ports in Iraq, made the announcement in a statement released by the Iraqi state news agency. Al-Fartousi said the attack targeted a ship in a ship-to-ship transfer area in the port of Basra on the Persian Gulf. It is still unclear whether the ship was hit by a flying or maritime drone or a missile. Rescuers recovered one body and rescued 38 other people. Commercial ports in Iraq remain open, while oil terminals have been closed.
