Rome, 15 March (LaPresse) – ‘Together with the Prime Minister and the entire Government, I am monitoring developments in the security situation in the region with the utmost attention, maintaining constant contact with the Chief of the Defence Staff, the Joint Forces Operational Command (COVI) and directly with commanders on the ground.’ This was stated in a note by the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, after a shelter at the Al Salem base in Kuwait was struck this morning; inside the shelter was a remotely piloted reconnaissance aircraft belonging to the Italian Air Task Force. “All Italian military personnel present at the base were safe and were not involved in the attack,” Crosetto added. “I immediately informed the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Ministers and all leaders of the political parties, both in the majority and the opposition, of the incident, in order to ensure maximum transparency and a shared understanding of the situation.”
