Washington (USA), Mar 16 (LaPresse) – “I have always been a strong critic of this whole policy of protecting countries, because I know that we are the ones protecting them and if we ever needed help they would not be there. I have known it for a long time.” This was said by U.S. President Donald Trump, complaining about allies who rejected U.S. requests for assistance in the Strait of Hormuz. In particular, Trump accused some countries, which he did not name, of not being sufficiently loyal to the United States after receiving security support for decades. “Some are very enthusiastic, others not. Some are countries that we have helped for many, many years. We protected them from terrible external threats, and they were not so enthusiastic, and the level of enthusiasm matters to me,” Trump said at a White House event. “We have some countries where we have 45,000 soldiers, great soldiers, who protect them from danger, and we have done a great job,” but “when we ask: ‘Do you have any minesweepers?’, they answer ‘We would rather not be involved,’” the U.S. president complained. “We have been protecting you for 40 years and you do not want to be involved in something that is small-scale,” Trump added.
