Turin, 17 March (LaPresse) – The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, told state television that the Strait of Hormuz can no longer be ‘as it was before’, with Iranian bombardments almost completely blocking the passage of ships along this strategic route. “They are firing missiles; should we perhaps stand by and watch without reacting, or not? Of course, it is our inalienable right” to react, “we must do so,” Qalibaf said in an interview broadcast today as Iranian bombardments continue to target ships in the region. “Certainly, from now on, given the incidents that have occurred, the Strait can no longer be, from a legal standpoint and in terms of transit, as it was before,” Qalibaf stated. “It no longer enjoys the necessary security,” he added. Around 20% of all oil and natural gas traded globally passes through the Strait of Hormuz.
