New York, 27 March (LaPresse) – The United Nations has announced the establishment of a new task force focused on managing the impact that the war with Iran has had on humanitarian aid and agricultural produce passing through the Strait of Hormuz. “Whilst Secretary-General Guterres is committed to doing everything possible to achieve a comprehensive and lasting solution to the conflict, it is essential to act immediately to mitigate its consequences,” said Stephane Dujarric, UN spokesperson, during the daily briefing. The task force will include representatives from the UN’s trade, maritime and international trade agencies, who will focus on developing and proposing technical mechanisms to facilitate the passage of essential aid through the strait. The initiative will build on similar UN efforts, including the humanitarian operation in Gaza and the inspection and monitoring mechanism for Yemen.
