Brussels, 31 March (LaPresse) – "The death penalty law in Israel is a cause of great concern to us in the EU. The introduction of capital punishment, coupled with the discriminatory nature of the law, represents a clear step backwards. We also note that several voices have been raised in Israel following the adoption of the law, and that an appeal has been lodged with the Supreme Court. This represents a clear negative signal in terms of Israel’s obligations regarding respect for human rights.” This was stated by the European Commission’s spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Anouar El Anouni, during the daily press briefing.
