Frankfurt (Germany), 2 April (LaPresse) – ‘The Strait of Hormuz is closed to ships involved in attacks against Iran.’ This was stated by the Iranian Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, during a conversation with his Vietnamese counterpart, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim. The minister emphasised Iran’s continued defence against aggressors, including their military bases and installations located within the territories of countries in the region, and clarified that the reason for Iran’s defensive operations in the region lies in the use of the territory, bases and installations located in these countries to wage an illegal war against Iran. Iran’s defensive operations fall within the framework of the inherent right to self-defence and must not be regarded as a violation of the host countries’ sovereignty, Araghchi stated, emphasising that the main source of insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is “the military aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran”. “This waterway is closed to vessels belonging to parties involved in military aggression against Iran, in accordance with the principles of international law and in order to prevent the aggressors from misusing the Strait of Hormuz to carry out illegal attacks against Iran. At the same time, shipping traffic from other countries is managed in coordination with the relevant Iranian authorities,” he added.
