Frankfurt (Germany), Apr 2 (LaPresse) – British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper condemned Iran’s “recklessness”, saying it “threatens global economic security”, speaking at the virtual meeting of foreign ministers on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, as reported by the BBC. Cooper said during the meeting of more than 40 foreign ministers that it is “urgent” to restore freedom of navigation for international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. In the past 24 hours, she said, 25 ships have crossed the strait – normally 150 would transit, but traffic has been disrupted by the effective blockade imposed by Iran on this strategic route. The minister added that about 20,000 seafarers have been traced aboard around 2,000 ships stranded due to the near-total closure of the strait.
