Rome, 22 Apr. (LaPresse/AP) – Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has stated that talks are underway to extend the ceasefire. His comments come a day before the second meeting scheduled in Washington between the Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors. Aoun said the aim of future talks is to bring Israeli attacks to a “complete” end, secure the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon, secure the release of Lebanese prisoners in Israel, deploy Lebanese troops along the border and begin the reconstruction process. Aoun added that the support promised to Lebanon by US President Donald Trump and other countries “has offered us an opportunity that we must not let slip, because it may not come again”.
