Tegucigalpa (Honduras), 22 May (LaPresse/AP) – Armed men opened fire in two separate attacks on the Honduran coast, killing at least 25 people, including six police officers. The first incident took place on a plantation in the municipality of Trujillo, in northern Honduras, where at least 19 workers were shot dead. In the second attack, the assailants opened fire on police in the municipality of Omoa, in the department of Cortés near the border with Guatemala, killing six officers, including a senior officer. The officers were assigned to an anti-gang mission and were attacked whilst travelling to Omoa from the capital, Tegucigalpa. The Ministry of Security announced that the National Police and the armed forces will intervene in both areas where the attacks took place and that teams comprising forensic specialists and public prosecutors will be set up to conduct the investigations.
